This is my very first drop waist dress ever! In my whole entire life! This may come to a surprise to you if it doesn’t that is ok. I have had a crazy obsession/desire to own a drop waist dress since I was a freshman in college, and I never got one until 7 years later… The real reason is something that I am a bit ashamed of. I thought I couldn’t pull it off, somehow my short stature limited my style and ability to wear a dress. I created a rule in my head, that somehow, I could not wear what I wanted. Crazy y’all. The only thing I cannot pull off are long jeans, that’s if they are not petite. Even then, I can get them altered. So SMH to me!!! I hate when I think I can’t pull something off or when other’s think so about themselves. That’s a huge pet peeve. No one should limit themselves because of the way their bodies look. Trying on clothes is so hard, even for a petite skinny girl like me. You see pieces of clothing that look perfect on the model. You automatically think that the pieces only fit one body type. I’ve been at shoots like these, and guess what, even the models get pieces altered to look “perfect” in the photo. Don’t let the mannequins in stores fool you either, Some clothing items are pinned, not to keep them in place, but to look better on them.
So here I am, short and all, wearing my very first drop waist dress, feeling weird, but happy that it took me 7 years to wear whatever the F I want. Next goal- crop top, ekkkk. That’s for another blog post.
