Houston Gals! (And guys too.)
We’ve got a new nail salon, and I’m totally in love with it! If you follow my Insta Stories, you will notice that I love rating different salons… showing the good, bad, and ugly from the nail places I go to. Honesty is key, therefore if you ask me about a salon, I’m going to be straight up with you. I went to Fizz on Westheimer with a friend, and we both loved it! great service and great nail technicians. A couple of months later, they opened a brand new one on Washington, and of course I went! Here is my review:
What’s trending: dip nails! Basically the nail is dipped individually into a powder and the powder is shaped into the nail. They add a polish beforehand, shape with a brush and this process repeats until perfection, it is a tedious job, but they look great after. Dip is supposed to last longer than shellac or acrylic nails- 3 or more weeks. Many technicians do this differently, some nail salons have not mastered it yet, but others have, like Fizz Nail Lounge know what they are doing.
I try to never add length to my nails, so I just asked for dip because my nails were already super long. I was greeted by Elena who seated me in what looks like a little bar area for your fingernails. The stools are tall, and they have a little slot where you can put your phone in. I always like to have fun, therefore, Elena and I decided on having fun with some accent nails. She suggested holographic nails. Since I did chrome before, I went for the holographic nails. (Holographic looks like chrome, but it has a rainbow effect on it.) Then Steven began assessing my nails. First was removing the shellac, then adding the dip powder, and finally adding the accent nail. It takes a total of an hour to an hour and a half for this whole process.
Deciding between dip, acrylic, or shellac? I ask for acrylic when my nails are super short and I want to add a tip. Growing your nails out? Heres a tip if you grow your nails out naturally: if you are not risking them breaking or falling, use shellac, but if your nails are long enough to the point that they make break, use dip. I do cut my nails after using dip, because my nails will be a bit weak afterwards.
